Onestep Walker NYE22

It’s always nice to see guests return to Radcliffes Lodge and this was the 2nd year Onestep walking club, who have members from Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire and Staffordshire, stayed with us over New Year. The group of 28 booked sole occupancy of the Lodge and one of our luxury apartments for 4 nights.

Armed with the previous years experiences it was decided they would do 2 long days of walking and 2 shorter days.  We worked with the leader Sue regarding their walks, and arranged transport for the group with Travelsure Coaches Limited.

Their 4 day Diary…..

Thursday – Arrived at the lodge mid afternoon and some of the group went for a few mile stroll around Amble and the harbour. That evening food was prepared by individuals for a large buffet style evening meal in our beautiful dining area, followed by a music quiz and a glass or 2 of wine….

Friday – The morning started with a self serve breakfast and Travelsure picked the group up at 9.30. The plan was to take the majority of the group to Craster and drop off, leaving them a 14 mile coastal walk back to Amble. Some of the group wanted a shorter walk so they were dropped off at Alnmouth on the way. With a few small detours this made for a 10 mile walk back to the Lodge. The evenings entertainment was a music quiz put on by one of the group.

Saturday – Another pick up from the Lodge by Travelsure and the group were taken to The Anglers Arms at Weldon Bridge, the walk being the St Oswalds way route back to Amble, 11 miles in total. A perfect lunchtime stopped was planned at The Running Fox at Felton then back to Radcliffes Lodge early evening in time to get “Spruced up” for a New Years Eve meal at The Wellwood Arms. The night was rounded off with some shapes being thrown on an improvised dance floor, and of course a night cap!

Sunday – A slow start to New Years Day was planned, however most did still manage a 10 mile walk south taking in some beaches and coastal path. The evening was spent in the Lodge preparing and eating a banquet style meal and another quiz….and just a little less alchohol than the previous night.

Monday – All were up early and packed away, leaving the Lodge earily quiet by 10:30. Another NYE slips by and we were pleased to have hosted this great group once again.

A huge thanks to Sue for organising the trip, both of their routes can be seen on our Komoot Page.
